What do missed calls cost you?

Four numbers you already know. The calculator shows the work you're likely losing to voicemail, and the maths behind it.

The starting numbers are example values. Replace them with your own.

From your phone or carrier's call log.

Leave out suppliers, existing customers and spam.

Out of 10 new enquiries you answer, how many become paid work?

An estimate from your numbers, not a forecast. Some callers will try again; many will ring the next business instead.

How it works

Not every missed call is a lost job. Some are suppliers, existing customers or people who'll call back. So the calculator only counts the share of missed calls that are new enquiries, then applies the rate at which you normally win new enquiries.

Lost jobs per month = missed calls per week × 52 ÷ 12 × share that are new enquiries × your win rate. Lost revenue = lost jobs × your average job value.

The result is an estimate of what's at stake, not a promise of what you'd recover. Callers who reach voicemail often ring the next business on the list, so the fastest fix is usually to answer more calls, or to reply instantly by text when you can't.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out how many calls I miss?

Check your phone system or mobile carrier's call log for unanswered calls over the last two to four weeks, then take the weekly average. Many business phone apps and VoIP systems show missed calls directly.

What counts as a new enquiry?

A call from someone who isn't yet a customer and is asking about a job, quote or booking. If you're unsure, listen to voicemails or call back a sample of missed numbers for a week and note who they were.

How can I stop losing missed calls?

Answer more calls during busy hours, set up missed-call text-back so every caller gets an instant reply, and use an answering service or AI receptionist after hours. Then follow up quickly on every enquiry.
